Our bangles and bracelets are designed to showcase and raise awareness about man made synthetic wastes in our oceans, seas and waterways.
This unusual piece includes a snake skin and a panel from a traditional hand woven bag from Papua New Guinea called a ” Bilum.” The bilum has been made using synthetic or plastic cord and was found washed up on the beach on K’gari [ Fraser Island].
By creatively recycling marine plastics and synthetic waste in a way that is both fun and fashionable, we aim to draw attention to the impact of our use of plastics.
A Hand Made, One Off Piece.
Each bangle we craft is a hand made and one off piece of wearable art.
Using a bio resin, we aim to be as environmentally conscious as possible when making jewellery with resin.
Each piece incorporates and features man made marine debris which is collected, cleaned and sorted by hand – a time consuming and dirty process.
We can confidently say this unique bangle has been made with love and care.
We have hand made this bangle with re purposed and recycled materials, some of which, have also been cleaned off our beaches.
Incorporating a panel from a traditional Papua New Guinea hand woven string bag [ Bilum], this cuff or bangle features man made waste.
As a natural contrast to the synthetic string used in this bilum, we have also included a section of a discarded snake skin. This skin was found in our garden and is from a wild small brown tree snake, which lives in and around the area.
All this is encased in clear resin, which showcases these repurposed materials without distracting from them.
We have, furthermore, deliberately included some small pieces of plastic and sea fern at each end of the cuff to further highlight the problem of discarded plastics in our oceans.
A Bangle That Carries An Environmental Message.
Incorporating debris collected from local beaches as well as pieces of sea fern, this eco bangle showcases man made waste.
Hand collected by both volunteers and recreational dive groups, the man made synthetic plastics have been featured as a deliberate environmental statement.
Did you know? 8 million tons of plastic goes into our oceans, waterways and also our beaches every year? Here are a few facts about these plastic wastes
Care of your Bracelet.
Our resin doesn’t yellow over time, but to keep it in excellent condition, we do suggest keeping it out of direct light when storing it. With this in mind, we send you your bracelet in its own bag.
To clean your bracelet, simply wipe it over with a soft cloth.
