Bright And Cheerful Key Ring Featuring Marine Debris
This bright and cheerful key ring featuring marine debris has been hand made using pieces from a bag found on the beach at K’gari [ Fraser Island]. This particular bag was a traditionally hand woven string bag from Papua New Guinea called a Bilum. The small pieces of colored nylon string in this key ring are the off cuts. These came from us cutting panels of the weave from the bag to use in our bangles. Traditionally these hand woven bags are made with natural cord and fibers, but this market bag has been made using synthetic nylon cord. Along with the coloured pieces of cord, we have also added some gold leaf flakes.
This reused fashion accessory also has multiple uses- as a key ring, attached to your hand bag as a decoration, or even taken off the clip and threaded onto your own necklace to create an eco and vegan pendant.
This key ring is also both lightweight and durable as well as being a unique accessory for any member of the family.
We have deliberately made this key ring to carry an eco message about caring for our oceans and seas. By incorporating the exact materials which cause problems for marine life such as the nylon cord used to make the bilum or string bag, we aim to raise awareness about the impact our actions have on our environment.
Why Not Be The Change and Support Our Planet?
Want to do your bit for our planet, but don’t have the time?
Want to do something that has a direct impact on helping our environment as well as raising awareness about the man made plastics discarded into our oceans, seas and waterways?
All you have to do, is simply use this one off key ring to make your own, personal eco statement!!
What Are Our Key Rings Made From?
Using bio resin, along with new stainless steel findings, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible.
We hand collect, sort and wash individually all the materials we use. Washed up on our beaches or collected and taken out of our waterways, all the debris has been carefully and lovingly cleaned and arranged in order to create each unique one off piece.
Why do you make key rings from man-made marine debris and natural materials washed up on our beaches?
We make each key ring in a creative way to act as a vehicle for carrying a message, as well as prompting awareness.
Raising awareness of the impact of plastics on our environment is above all, why we use these materials the way we do.
