My name is Aukai and I have been hand made using recycled marine debris including recycled fishing line, marine rope, which forms my base and a single wild bird feather. I also have small plastic seed beads and peridot beads hand stitched into me.
My name is Aukai and in Hawaiian means and in Greek means ” Explorer of the sea“.
My mission is to help you raise awareness about the issues both we and our environment face with synthetic, man made wastes in our seas, oceans and waterways.
Jo hand made me using a range of repurposed materials in shades of white, cream, yellow and green.
All the tangled and frayed nylon rope knots, marine rope and seed beads have been carefully hand stitched into place using more recycled fishing line.
I really am a sustainable and innovative necklace from marine debris that also carries an eco message.

We handmade this gorgeous environmental necklace from recycled marine debris, including pieces of discarded fishing line, reclaimed marine rope and also a single wild lorikeet feather. Collected from our beaches and waterways, the marine debris we use is deliberately intended to carry an eco message.

Recycled marine rope makes up the Aukai’s cord and also forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Added to this is a bundle of knotted, stained and frayed marine rope which twists and coils itself around the white base rope. Nestled in among this frayed jumble of rope are small seed beads as well as some peridot beads. as a feature piece at the center of the necklace is a single wild bird feather.
Aukai is a lightweight and durable piece which won’t scratch or itch but may lightly tickle you with her fishing line.

My name is Aukai.

I’ve been hand made using debris collected off beaches along the Sunshine Coast, including bits of tangled and frayed marine rope, knotted pieces of nylon rope and also recycled fishing line.
I also have a single wild bird feather.
My base cord is soft and pliable recycled marine rope with everything else subsequently stitched or woven around it. Being slightly frayed and stained from time in the ocean, it additionally adds to the significance of my story.
