Check out my details and read my story. I really am a necklace with a conscience.

It’s that simple.
Worried that I may be scratchy to wear?

An Ethical And Handmade Necklace With An Eco Message
Meet Mata.
We handmade this ethical necklace with an eco message using recycled marine debris, including pieces of discarded gill net, marine rope and also reclaimed fishing line. Collected from our beaches and waterways, the marine debris we use is deliberately intended to carry an eco message, along with the bio resin sea star which is filled with pieces of micro plastic.
Recycled Marine Debris Necklace With An Eco Message.
Recycled marine rope makes up the necklace’s cord and also forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Added to this is a bio resin pendant in the shape of a small sea star which nestles among a tangle of fishing line and gill netting in contrast to some small wild bird faethers and a piece of driftwood.
She is a lightweight and durable piece which won’t scratch or itch but may lightly tickle you with her fishing line.
Message From Mata
Hello,
My name is Mata.
My name comes from the scientific phylum name for sea stars- Echinodermata.
I’ve been hand made using debris collected off beaches along the Sunshine Coast, including bits of gill net, fishing line and also microplastics.
My base cord is recycled marine rope with everything else subsequently stitched or woven around it. Being slightly frayed and stained from time in the ocean, it additionally adds to the significance of my story.
My centre piece features a bio resin sea star, which Jo handmade and moreover embedded micro plastics in as a statement about the impact of plastics on marine life. The sea star also seems to be nestling in a sea of tangled plastic.
Tangled and frayed gill net and reclaimed fishing line have also been hand stitched to my marine rope. This adds to the scene of tangled man-made waste. Reclaimed copper wire twists and turns around my rope to furthermore add a sense of flow to the twists of the rope.
A small cluster of feathers and a piece of driftwood function as nods to the natural world and also act as a foil to all the synthetics used to make me.
I am totally hand made. There isn’t another necklace like me, so be reassured that when you wear me, you are truly making a fashion statement.
Jo has made me to be light weight and sturdy, so that I am both a fashion statement and an environmental statement.
I hope you have as much fun wearing me as Jo undoubtedly did making me.
