I come with a message and I’ve been hand made from marine debris and plastics.
My mission is to show people the dangers of plastics as well as a creative way to recycle them.
Too busy to do as much recycling as you’d like? The solution is right here with me.
Just by wearing me, you can pass on the message of recycling and the dangers of plastic. Working together, we can prompt some amazing conversations when people comment on your unusual necklace.
Worried that I may be scratchy to wear? Don’t be. All you’ll get when wearing me is the odd tickle.
Jo has made me to be a sturdy, lightweight and comfortable necklace. Marine debris plastics can, at times, be a bit brittle or may chip, which is why you’ll notice most has been embedded in Bio resin. Anyway, this all just adds to my story and character.
When you purchase me, my full story comes with me.
We hand made this ethical necklace using natural and recycled materials. Marine debris, including discarded fishing line and netting are key components in Mira’s makeup.
Recycled Mira.
Hand braided from discarded fishing line, Mira’s cord forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and, above all, wearable art. Collected off the beach, micro plastics embedded in a bio resin starfish and bits of frayed netting and rope sit along her cord.
Made from bio resin, micro plastics and also tangled fishing twine for hair, her face acts as her key feature
Mira is a dainty and lightweight piece that won’t scratch or itch but simply tickles you with her fishing line. Hand stitching her features into place has ensured she is a sturdy piece to wear.
Mira also brings with her own personal story to help you understand the message she brings.
A message from Mira
Hello.
My name’s Mira, which comes from the Sanskrit meaning “ocean”.
I began as a braided cord Jo made from recycled pale green fishing line, which was then attached to my stainless-steel findings.
Like most of Jo’s Gaia series necklaces, I represent something associated with our oceans, seas, waterways and beaches. In my case, I represent the ocean itself, hence my name. Jo has portrayed me as an entity and being in my own right.
My face has been made from bio resin with a bit of blue dye to subsequently represent the blue of the ocean. Hidden beneath my waves and tides, however, lie many pieces of man-made waste. That’s why I also have some caste netting embedded into my face and pieces of micro plastics in my forehead. My tangled hair is fishing twine which was pulled out of local waterways and then cleaned and sorted.
I’m kept company by a bio resin sea star nestled with a marine rope sea anemone. Like me, the sea star also has micro plastics embedded within it.
Accompanying me when I’m posted to my new home is my complete story, so you can really get to know me.
