I come with an environmental message and, because of that, I’ve been made from marine debris and plastics, including gill net, micro plastics, nylon rope and even bits of discarded fishing line.
My mission is to show people, in a creative way, the dangers of plastics and to prompt ways to recycle.
In other words – I’ve been made from peoples trash into a unique, one off fashion accessory.
Would you dare to be different enough to wear me? Or are you…..
Too busy to do as much recycling as you’d like?
The solution is right here with me.
Just by wearing me, you can pass on the message of recycling and the dangers of plastic. Working together, we can prompt some amazing conversations when people comment on your unusual necklace.
Worried that I may be scratchy to wear?
Don’t be. All you’ll get when wearing me is the odd tickle.
Jo has made me to be a sturdy, lightweight and comfortable necklace.
When you purchase me, my full story comes with me, so you can learn a bit more about me.
We have hand made this ocean themed and one off necklace, using recycled man made materials, especially discarded netting and rope. Marine debris, including discarded gill netting, as well as marine rope, are key components in Anchora’s makeup, all of which has been collected from our beaches and waterways.
Hand made Anchora.
Hand made from discarded marine rope, fishing line and seed beads, Anchora represents an underwater scene.
Anchora is a dainty and lightweight piece that won’t scratch or itch but simply tickles you with her fishing line. Made to be sturdy, her feature pieces have, in addition, all been hand stitched into place.
A message from Anchora
Hello.
My name’s Anchora, which is Latin for “anchor”.
Designed to give a message of hope for our oceans through my story, I’m also a piece of wearable art.
I have been made from a range of recycled man-made marine debris, which has been collected off local beaches or council recycle centres, then hand cleaned and refreshed.
Collected off the beach at Mooloolaba, recycled marine rope was firstly used to begin the process of hand crafting me into a necklace. Along with the gill netting, this rope initially formed the base which everything else was attached to. Recycled gill netting cleared out of the Mooloolaba waterway by a local dive group, was then draped and stitched in place, so that it looked like it was hanging off the marine rope. This represented the discarded fishing nets in the ocean, which indiscriminately tangle and also catch everything.
I represent an underwater scene, but everything is not quite as it seems.
Frayed pieces of blue marine rope and fine green netting represent seaweed.
Carved pumice stone subsequently becomes coral with a clay starfish sitting on it.
This is part of my story.
The rest comes with me when you give me my forever home.
