Handmade Marine Necklace That’s Both Ethical and Environmental With A Conservation Message.
We lovingly hand made and stitched this marine necklace using natural and recycled materials. Collected from our beaches and waterways, marine debris including discarded fishing line and crab pot netting, along with fish scales are the key components in Joyeuse’s makeup.
Recycled Joyeuse, A Marine Necklace With A Conservation Message.
Hand collected and cleaned marine rope makes up Joyeuse’s cord and also forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Stitched to the rope is a piece of marine plastic and recycled marine rope and netting. Caught up in this jumble are some tiny seed beads and sprays of fishing line which consequently attach a worn shell to the cord.
Sent to you as a one off individual piece, Joyeuse also brings her own personal story to help you understand the message she brings.
Joyeuse is a lightweight and durable piece which won’t scratch or itch but may lightly tickle you with her fishing line. Hand stitching her feature pieces into place ensures she is a sturdy and durable necklace.
A message from Joyeuse.
My name is Joyeuse and this is my story.
I am named after the sword of Charlemagne, called Joyeuse. Though I am part of a plastic bottle found washed up on a beach, my shape reminds Jo of an old sword or dagger, discarded, buried and forgotten.
The “dagger” sat in Jo’s studio for over 6 months. Covered in a film of crumbling, white micro plastic, Jo could still see glimpses of the blue plastic underneath. It wasn’t until she began sanding and cleaning off the layer of disintegrating plastic that my story began to unfold.
Like a dagger or sword, plastics can be deadly. Discarded or used without thought, both create a threat. My dagger pendant is like a plastic weapon which creates a danger to the marine ecosystems throughout the world.
There is more to my story, which I bring with me when I find my new owner.
I hope it’s you.
