Recycled Pearl.
Pearl’s base cord is a piece of recycled marine rope, which forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and, above all, wearable art. Collected off the beach, micro plastics embedded in a bio resin face and also several shells, along with tangled fishing twine, all sit along her cord.
Made from a plant based resin [ 77 % bio based], micro plastics as well as pieces of plastic netting form her face, which sits in a tangle of fishing twine for hair. To keep her company are several ” shells”, also made with bio resin, metal fishing swivels and microplastics. Each is kept in place by fishing line and reused plastic seed beads. Finally, threads of fine fishing line and a background of cast netting finish off this one off piece.
Pearl is a dainty and lightweight piece that won’t scratch or itch but simply tickles you with her fishing line. Hand stitching her features into place has moreover, ensured she is a sturdy piece to wear.
Pearl also brings with her own personal story to help you understand the message she brings.

Hello.
My name’s Pearl. I’ve been named after the chambered nautilus (Nautilus pompilius), which is also called the pearly nautilus, and is the best-known species of nautilus. The shell, when it’s cut away, reveals a lining of lustrous nacre and displays a nearly perfect equiangular spiral, although it is not a golden spiral.
I began as a plain cord necklace which was then attached to my stainless-steel magnetic clasp.
Like most of Jo’s Statement series necklaces, I represent something associated with our oceans, seas, waterways and beaches. In my case, I represent the danger many sea shells are in, especially the nautilus, due to me being harvested alive for the tourist souvenir trade. Jo has portrayed me as an entity and being in my own right.
Accompanying me when I’m posted to my new home is my complete story, so you can really get to know me.
