Mermaid Necklace With An Environmental Theme
Meet Una, a mermaid necklace with an environmental theme.
We handmade this delightful and whimsical necklace using marine debris, including pieces of discarded fishing line, cast netting, and also frayed and reclaimed marine rope. Collected from our beaches and waterways, the marine debris we use is deliberately intended to carry an environmental message.
A Mermaid Necklace With An Eco Message.
Recycled marine rope makes up the Una’s cord and also forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Added to this is a center piece made from several fish scales as well as a small plastic pearl bead, all of which nestles among a tangle of frayed marine rope. To keep the fish scales company are 2 white wild bird feathers and also a crystal bead which all sit among the tangle of frayed white rope.
She is a lightweight and durable piece which won’t scratch or itch but may lightly tickle you with her fishing line.
Message From Una
My name is Una.
My name comes from the Celtic term for ” White wave“.
I’ve been hand made using debris collected off beaches along the Sunshine Coast, including bits of tangled and frayed marine rope, cast netting and also some fish scales.
My base cord is recycled marine rope with everything else subsequently stitched or woven around it. Being slightly frayed and stained from time in the ocean, this rope additionally adds to the significance of my story.
My center piece features 3 fish scales held in place by a plastic pearl bead and representing a stylized flower. Jo handmade me using these materials as a statement about the impact of plastics on marine life.
The tangled and frayed marine rope, the cast netting and the beads have also been hand stitched in place. By doing this, Jo has deliberately added to the scene of tangled man-made waste.
I am totally hand made. There isn’t another necklace like me, so be reassured that when you wear me, you are truly making a fashion statement.
Jo has made me to be light weight and sturdy, so that I am both a fashion statement and an environmental statement.
I hope you have as much fun wearing me as Jo undoubtedly did making me.
