An Ocean Conservation Necklace With Marine Debris That’s Both Ethical and Environmental.
We hand made this ocean conservation necklace using recycled marine debris, including pieces of discarded fishing net, marine rope and also reclaimed fishing line. Collected from our beaches and waterways, the marine debris we use is deliberately intended to carry a message, along with the bio resin ray which is filled with pieces of micro plastic and caste net.
Recycled Marine Debris Necklace With A Message.
Recycled marine rope makes up the necklace’s cord and also forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Added to this is a bio resin pendant in the shape of a small ray which swims in among a clutter of drift wood, shells and also tangled fishing line and netting.
She is a lightweight and durable piece which won’t scratch or itch but may lightly tickle you with her fishing line.
Message From Bula
My name is Bula.
My name comes from the family name for manta rays – Mobulidae.
I’ve been hand made using debris collected off beaches along the Sunshine Coast, including fishing net, fishing line and microplastics.
My base cord is recycled marine rope with everything else subsequently stitched or woven around it. Being slightly frayed and stained from time in the ocean, it additionally adds to the significance of my story.
My centre piece features a bio resin manta ray, which Jo handmade and moreover embedded micro plastics in as a statement about the impact of plastics on marine life. The manta also seems to be swimming in a sea of plastic.
Tangled and frayed fishing net and reclaimed fishing line have also been hand stitched to my marine rope to add to the scene of tangled man-made waste. Reclaimed copper wire twists and turns around my rope to furthermore add a sense of flow to the twists of the rope.
A small piece of driftwood and 2 small shells function as a nod to the natural world and also act as a foil to all the synthetics used to make me.
I am totally hand made. There isn’t another necklace like me, so be reassured that when you wear me, you are truly making a fashion statement.
Jo has made me to be light weight and sturdy, so that I am both a fashion statement and an environmental statement.
I hope you have as much fun wearing me as Jo undoubtedly did making me.
