I am a one of a kind hand made statement necklace with a message.
Made from marine debris, I provide a unique solution to reusing and re purposing marine debris.
I also act as a messenger to educate and draw people’s awareness to the dangers of plastics and man made waste in our environment.
Are you as passionate about recycling and re purposing as I am?
If so, maybe we can collaborate and work together!
Just by wearing me, you can pass on the message of recycling and the dangers of plastic. Working together, we can prompt some amazing conversations when people comment on your unusual necklace.
Worried that I may be scratchy to wear?
Don’t be. All you’ll get when wearing me is the odd tickle.
I have been made to be a sturdy, lightweight and comfortable necklace. Marine debris plastics can, at times, be a bit brittle or may chip, which just adds to my story and character.
When you purchase me, my full story comes with me as well as my own hand made bag which you can store me in.
We hand made this one of a kind necklace using both natural and recycled materials. Collected from local beaches, marine debris are key components in Aster’s makeup.
Up cycled Aster.
Hand braided from discarded fishing line, Aster’s cord forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and, best of all, wearable art. Collected off the beach, a pair of bio resin and marine plastic sea stars act as her main features. Twisted, wrapped and stitched around her cord of fishing line is discarded and reclaimed caste netting and gill net.
Sent to you in her own hand made bag, Aster also brings with her her own personal story to help you understand the message she brings. [ Please note that her bag may not be the exact one in the photo].
Aster is a dainty and lightweight piece that won’t scratch or itch but simply tickles you with her fishing line. She has been made to be sturdy by hand stitching her feature pieces in place.
A message from Aster
Hello,
My name is Aster and this is my story.
Jo named me in recognition of the scientific name for sea stars, Asteroidea . Commonly known as star fish, sea stars are closely related to sea urchins with 2,000 species living in all the world’s oceans.
Asteroidea have been know to eat plastics for the last 40 years. One of the reasons Jo decided to hand weave and include 2 starfish was to inform and also alert us to the silent dangers plastics present.
I represent the threat of discarded plastics to all marine organisms. Nothing that lives in our oceans is safe from these synthetic products- whether its plastics or discarded netting. Look closely at how my soft netting twists and traps everything in its soft folds. Like the ghost netting in the ocean, my net catches everything in its folds.
Have a question or query about Aster or another piece of our jewellery?
Why not contact us and ask away. We look forward to hearing from you.
Details about Aster.
Materials: Discarded fishing line, marine plastic and fish nets, fish scales, bio resin starfish [ the bio resin is 77% plant waste] and recycled seed beads.
