Statement Necklace Hand Crafted From Marine Debris
$80.00$60.00
Hello. My name is Scrap.
I have been hand made from marine plastics and waste so that I can be a fashion and environmental statement rolled into one.
My mission is to work with you to raise awareness of the dangers caused by plastics in our seas and oceans.
Too busy to do as much recycling as you’d like?
The solution is right here with me.
Just by wearing me, you can pass on the message of recycling and the dangers of plastic. Working together, we can prompt some amazing conversations when people comment on your unusual necklace.
Worried that I may be scratchy to wear?
Don’t be. Jo has made me to be a sturdy, lightweight and comfortable necklace. Marine debris plastics can, at times, be a bit brittle or may chip, but that just adds to my story and character.
When you purchase me, my full story comes with me as well as my own hand made bag which you can store me in.
Meet Scrap, a statement necklace with a difference.
We hand make each statement necklace using recycled materials. Collected from our beaches, marine debris, including discarded fishing line and marine plastics are key components in Scrap’s makeup.
Recycled Scrap.
Hand braided from discarded fishing line, Scrap’s cord forms the foundation for this unusual piece of ethical and wearable art. Collected off the beach, 2 pieces of blue marine plastic act as her feature pendants. Hanging off each of these pieces are recycled sinkers and beads- a true statement about the waste and debris left in our seas and oceans.
Sent to you with love, Scrap also brings her own personal story to help you understand the message she carries.
Scrap is both a sturdy and chunky statement necklace.

Hello,
My name is Scrap.
I have been named after the word “Scrap” which is a synonym of the word “Remains of”.
Why?
On the back of the larger piece of plastic which forms one of my 2 pendants are the words “Remains of”. What object this piece of plastic was part of we have no idea as it was found washed up on the high tide mark at a local beach.
I am hand made by Jo who has braided recycled fishing line to make my 2 basic cords. As a nod to commercial and recreational fishing and to add weight to me, Jo has also added several recycled fishingsinkers. Local dive groups have collected these during their waterways clean ups along the Sunshine Coast.
Added to dress up the sinkers and add a bit of complimentary colour to the blue fishing line, are several recycled glass beads.
Jo has used materials you wouldn’t expect in a necklace, to prompt conversations or discussions about the impact of man-made materials on our environment. You may be surprised how easy it is to have a conversation too. After all – how many people can say their necklace has been made from rubbish washed up on the beach?
I’m also designed to stand out and be a statement. Deliberately made to be unusual, I am truly a statement necklace.
