The Oxford Dictionary explains that the origin of this word is from the Latin verb communicare “to share” and defined it as, “The successful conveying or sharing of ideas and feelings”.
So – what does this mean for us at Nu4u?
For us the key words are ” Successful” and “Sharing”.
We try to find time to reread our posts or tutorials to make sure our meaning is clear and easily understood.
It’s especially hard when writing up a PDF tutorial for sale, though.
How often have you found that on line courses or even emails are sometimes either difficult to follow or easily misconstrued? We’ve all heard of, or know about, situations where an email has led to misunderstandings or issues between people.
Often words on their own aren’t enough for us to effectively share our ideas, tips, tricks and knowledge.
After all – Communication also involves tone of voice, hands, facial expression and even our stance. None of these can be effectively conveyed through an email, letter or a set of written instructions.
And when it comes to an online tutorial, how do you communicate or show people how to make something then? In a face to face workshop or tutorial we can demonstrate, model and discuss it as we work through it with our participants. By using all the ways to communicate mentioned above, we can easily pass on all our knowledge or see when someone is confused or struggling. None of this is possible when it’s a written document, though!!
At Nu4u, we have tried to overcome this problem in our PDF tutorials by including a lot of photos and diagrams to go with our instructions. In some instances we have included written instructions, a photo and a diagram for the same instruction, just to be sure customers aren’t confused!
Did you know that all our tutorials have over 120 photos in them and that we give each tutorial a trial run with someone who has never done the project before to make sure it’s easy to follow?
We’re even looking at working on some videos along this line as well – thank heavens for You Tube!
