Is Social Media Connection The Key In 2020?
This is the year that people are using social media platforms more and more. Connection is definitely the key to this in 2020. Through the avenues of Face Book, Twitter, Instagram etc, it seems to be more important than ever, especially in this environment of social distancing, mask wearing and lock downs.
Connecting with others now has limitations and boundaries around it. No longer the BBQ for the neighbourhood, picnic in the park or even giving a loved one you haven’t seen in a while that badly needed hug.
Social media has stepped into the void. Now we send a virtual hug or have a group ” get together” using Skype or Zoom.
Business meetings, doctor’s consultations, teaching, workshops and even family gatherings are now done virtually and on line.
Connection Is The Key In 2020 Through Relationships and Communication.
We’ve changed our habits and ways of doing things. We’ve changed how we use social media too. The more time I’ve had working on my own, the more I’ve found myself reaching out to followers and other businesses on line.
I’m focusing more on taking the time to give other people a positive post. I’m no longer interested in whether someone agrees with my point of view or political beliefs. My focus has shifted to saying ” Well done. What an awesome idea!”
I take it as a compliment if someone messages me to ask how I made a piece of jewellery or ask me about the type of resin I use. Now I take the time to not only respond, but offer support, ideas and even links. I get a sense of satisfaction from a simple ” Thanks”.
How businesses engage with their customers is subtly changing. Using social media to build relationships through communication seems to be holding more and more power. Social restrictions and isolation mean we have to depend more and more on virtual contact. This means virtual communication as well.
Focus is now more on the language and words you use.
Have you noticed how you use words to communicate in social media? I’ve become more thoughtful about words I choose to use as I can no longer depend on tone, pitch, body language and facial expressions.
We now need to all become masters of socail media communication to build better relationships.
