Have you found you often get those amazing ideas at the most unexpected times? Recently I was driving down the freeway, on my way to the hairdressers with nothing particular on my mind, when I had one of those flashes of insight.
Yes – Nu4u is about creating fashion, home decor and jewellery from natural and recycled materials, but…… Something, I felt was missing. As my mind skimmed over a range of similar thoughts, I started to see that my biggest asset I hadn’t tapped into, was my experience as a teacher.
Fast track to me sitting in the chair at my hairdressers, when I realized she had been talking about running a workshop for over 4 years, but had never done anything about it. Our conversation went something like this.
Jo: ” Karen, why haven’t you run any of those workshops you’ve talked about?”
Karen: ” I haven’t had the time.”
Jo: ” But a lot of your clients have said they’d really like to know how to style their hair better.”
Karen: ” I don’t want to add more hours to my day to set it up and anyway, I’m not good at computer word to do up my flyers.”
Jo: ” So, is it because it isn’t important enough or are you putting it off? Maybe I can help with my background as a teacher.”
Karen:” Well…. I suppose I can reallocate hours to find some time… I guess I just don’t know where to start. I need the first bit done.”
Jo: ” If I did up some steps and processes for you to follow, would this help?”
Karen: ” That would be great. I would really like to set it up and do it well.”
……And this is how our new learning banner has come about – The first step, being our first one day workshop on how to plan, prepare and present a workshop!
