Have you found that over the years you have had dreams or wants that the everyday grind of work, sleep, eat etc stops you from doing? Don’t get me wrong – I loved my job, but there was a deep-seated dream to be able to immerse myself in the world of art and creativity.
12 months ago, I bit the bullet and retired with the goal to make a business from my creative / artistic ability, even though I didn’t know what my preferred medium or ability was.
After all, I had read or heard about those people who were living the dream and making a living [or millions of dollars] from what they felt passionate about. There was the sculptor who worked amazing things with stone, the photographer who captured breathtaking landscapes, and the motivational speaker who traveled the world selling his / her secret formula to abundant happiness and wealth.
“Well”, I figured, “If they can do it, why can’t I?”
So….. I began to work on my goal. I tried one medium after another… sold my trial / experimental pieces at markets…. barely made enough to cover the cost of the materials I had bought to make the things in the first place….. and learnt some hard truths.
Not only was I inexperienced at setting up and running a business, I wasn’t a brilliant artist, nor an earth breaking entrepreneur…..
Despite thinking positive thoughts, sending out “Please help me” messages to the universe and trying hard not to have that attitude of “Lack”, I still didn’t get anywhere…. My first web site was a disaster, I was a novice at promoting myself and managing social media and I still hadn’t identified my true ability or medium.
Family and friends were supportive, but eventually you must make it on your own. Only when I learnt this bitter lesson did I begin to turn the corner. Only after I learnt to see myself for who I really was, was I able to begin my journey.
Nu4u is the result of me learning about myself. It is a coalescence of my love for nature, recycling, creativity, people and learning. Nu4u reflects my biggest strength – that I DON’T have a preferred medium or skill.
Funny that I only learned this after I had my initial interview with 2 amazing women who have helped me rebuild my web site!
So – welcome to Nu4u, the world of recycling, creative thinking, learning and the planet and a big “ Thank you” to Karen and Jo who helped me make this website possible!
With Love, Jo
