Ever wondered about those Overnight Success stories you hear about?
I was talking to some business associates the other day and we reached the mutual decision that the term overnight success just means that people have just become aware of you.
The term can be so misleading. We easily forget that “overnight success” comes after research, learning, product development, trialling and road testing, reviewing…… the list goes on and can covers years or even decades.
I decided to go back over my Instagram postings for the last year to see if I could see any changes or shifts towards me moving closer to my goal of being an “overnight success”.
Thinking it would help me get a clear idea of what “success” meant to me, I found instead, some amazing insights and useful data. So, what were the insights I found from the last 12 months?
I’m becoming more tuned into my niche market as well as what it is I’m best at. Well, I’m getting closer to knowing who my niche market is, if the truth be known! [ Insert self-deprecating chuckle]. And I’m also getting closer to knowing what I’m best at. Have I achieved my ” success” goals yet? Definitely not.
My Instagram posts are a visual diary of my journey towards both and also a reminder of where I’ve come from and where I’m going.
Have I reached my destination of “overnight success” or even an understanding of what this term means for me? No [ insert another chuckle].
What I do know is that, because of me looking through my Instagram posts, I reviewed and re- wrote my actions, milestones and goals for the rest of this year. This time they were more succinct, specific, measurable, achievable and realistic. I realise I’m more focused and much clearer about what it is I want to do. I’m still not there yet, but I’m further down the road than I realised.
I just needed a conversation about 2 words and a trip down memory lane to help me on my way.
Overnight success? Maybe I will be and maybe I won’t, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that I know more about myself and the service I am best qualified to provide.
