Home Decor Basket From Beach Rope. 

This home decor basket from beach rope began life as a bundle of frayed and stained pieces of rope cleared off the beach along K’Gari.  Once cleaned, these pieces were coiled and then stitched into place with reused fishing line. In addition, its  frayed ends were deliberately allowed to feature along its tops and sides.  A shell with plastic in it, reused beads and also a piece of plastic off the beach have been stitched into place. The final touch is the addition of 2 fishing lures and a bio resin shell with cast netting in it.

A Beach Rope Basket That Tells A Story.

Several key  pieces of  rope have gone into making this basket.  The knots, twists and frayed  ends all tell a story of survival in the ocean. The frayed ends show the impact of tides as well as waves.

Material Information

Most of the rope  used has been hand cleared off  K’Gari [ formerly Fraser Island].  Each piece has been hand washed, or additionally water jet cleaned [ or “gernied”  in Australia].  This gives all the rope and cords a new life as a basket.  Sometimes pieces need to also be hand wash  in vinegar to remove any odours.

Where do you get your materials from?

In line with Nu4u’s philosophy of being as kind as possible to our environment, most materials used are discards from beaches, waterways or recycle centres.

Care for your basket

As this basket has been made using a range of rope and cord cleared off beaches, it is consequently quite sturdy.  It needs little care. Leave it indoors or out on a verandah.
